Freedom Tribe

This blog is created out of love for all the members of Freedom Tribe and love for their music. I consider Freedom himself to be the greatest visionary song composer of all time. In fact, his songs have saved my life many times. I know that some folks never heard of Freedom, because he hasn't consistently been on tour. Hopefully that will soon change, as his music is the most powerful mystical message I ever heard.

Freedom Tribe formally existed for only a few years, but the lineup was so powerful they could each have been in their own band, and now they are. Freedom, Sasha Butterfly, Al Torre (Owl), Stephen Rouch, Nicholas Iris (Two Feathers), Rob Peebler, Jennifer (violin), and MJ & Jim Riordan the drummers, as well as occasionally others like Tina Malia and Jules Graves have been in and out of the band and have their own groups.

Good Medicine for the Soul

Freedom is a singer songwriter from the northwest. His music is well known in many circles along the west coast and is gaining worldwide appreciation. He has toured extensively for several years with a diverse group of talented musicians. Freedom is currently accompanied by Rob Peebler on 12-string and lead guitar, Jim Riordan on drums and percussion, and Dan Schmidt on piano and bass, comprising the band, "Freedom".

Visionary lyrics, soulful melodies and world rhythms merge to create a sound that is powerful as it is mystic. The poetry is of substance, relevance and strength. The songs are timeless. When experienced live, the magic of this music is in purist form.

Freedom has a fan base that stretches the entire globe. They have toured the west coast from San Diego to Seattle, as well as the Hawaiian Islands, New York, Canada and Australia. They have been billed with musicians as diverse as Stevie Wonder, David Grisman Quintet, Spearhead, String Cheese Incident, Steve Kimock, Scott Huckabay, Burning Spear, Lost at Last, Hamsa Lila, Rafe Pearlman, Jah Levi, Hanuman, and Flowmotion.

They have performed at the Oregon Country Fair, Sierra Nevada World Music Festival, Trinity Tribal Stomp, Earth Dance, Horning's Hide Out, Health & Harmony, Hemp Festivals in Eugene and Seattle, The Whole Earth Faire, The Garlic Festival, The Herbal Faire, Ashland Country Faire, among many others.

Freedom has also toured other venues and night clubs extensively. Some of these include The Santa Cruz Civic Center, Palookaville in Santa Cruz, Mt. Tabor Theater in Portland, The Wild Duck in Eugene, The Ashland Armory, the WOW Hall in Eugene, The Wild Buffalo in Bellingham, The Orpheum Theater in Flagstaff, Victors on the Bay in Sand Diego, Blind Melons in San Diego, New George's in San Rafael and The Black Box in Oakland.
